AlltheWeb.com Claims to Outpace Google

Search engine says it has indexed 2.1 billion Web pages, more than its popular rival.

Search engine AlltheWeb.com claims it has out-Googled Google by indexing more Web pages than its rival.

Operated by Fast Search & Transfer in Oslo, AlltheWeb.com says it has indexed 2.1 billion Web pages, compared to Google's 2.07 billion.

However, Fast Search & Transfer spokesperson Jami Axelrod says that while its search engine has appeal for Internet users, the company's focus is to showcase its search technology to enterprises. "We are the technology showcase for Fast Search & Transfer," Axelrod says.

Fast Search & Transfer, which creates real-time search and filter technologies, uses AlltheWeb.com to show potential customers the capabilities of its technology, Axelrod says. Fast Search & Transfer powers such sites as Terra Lycos, eBay, and T-Online International, she says.

Axelrod also says that AlltheWeb.com offers other advanced features. AlltheWeb.com integrates news highlights into its real-time indexing capabilities, has advanced linguistics as well as the ability to categorize Web pages, and automatically interprets the correct meaning of queries to present users with the most relevant information, Axelrod says.

Mountain View, California-based Google could not be reached for comment. Earlier this week, Google announced that a number of companies including Boeing, Cisco Systems, and the University of Florida, had adopted its corporate search engine services.
