WHAT'S NOT: Despite its lofty read rating of up to 48X, this drive proved a bit slower than competing drives on our Microsoft Office installation, which took 3 minutes and 39 seconds, some 25 seconds (about 13 percent) longer than the average. The fastest drive, Benq's 3210 32X/10X/40X drive, completed the test in only 3 minutes, about 18 percent quicker than our Pacific Digital model.
WHAT ELSE: Bundled with the Mach 32 drive is Nero Burning ROM, which includes Nero Wave Editor for editing and converting sound files; Cover Design for creating layouts for jewel-case covers and booklets; CD Speed, for testing your CD-ROM drive's transfer rate, seek times, and CPU usage; and Drive Speed, for stepping down the read speed of drives to reduce noise (mainly when playing audio and video files).
UPSHOT: A low price combined with fast CD-RW speeds and a useful bundle of utilities makes the Mach 32 CD-ReWriter an excellent value.
