1. Keep hard drives on their own EIDE channel
Every PC has two EIDE channels, primary and secondary. Each channel can handle two drives, designated as "master" and "slave." For the best performance, keep hard drives on the primary channel ( A) and other drives on the secondary channel ( B). If possible, you should avoid installing a hard drive on the same channel with a slower optical drive, because this can limit the hard drive's performance.
