Dave's Favorites: SplashPhoto
Photo viewers for PDAs have been around for a while, but only recently have those pocket-size computers delivered enough color and resolution to really make pocket slideshows practical and fun.
In the past, I've written about image viewers like AcidImage for the Palm that can show off your recent digital camera exploits, but AcidImage isn't good for storing a permanent photo album in your pocket. If you want to turn on your Palm and show baby pictures to anyone too slow to come up with a reason to be elsewhere, then you should check out SplashPhoto. It costs just $20--not bad for an excellent hi-resolution PDA image viewer.
SplashPhoto works two ways. You can copy good-old JPEG files onto your PDA's memory card, and SplashPhoto will find and display them. But JPEG files can be memory hogs and slow to display. SplashPhoto works best with the SplashPhoto Desktop--a desktop-based converter program that lets you rotate, zoom, and crop your pictures to taste. You can even choose which format your images will work best with, from the basic Palm's 160-pixel, gray-scale resolution to Sony Clie 320-by-480-pixel, 16-bit color. You can display pictures singly or in slideshow mode.
