Top 10 LCD Monitors
Four newcomers--including the first-place model from Samsung--refresh this month's list.
Flat-panels used to be so pricey that they showed up most often in places where nothing else would do, such as financial trading floors and medical environments. But LCD monitors are getting cheaper and better looking all the time--so why not ditch your clunky CRT screen for a sleek LCD? Though a good quality 17-inch CRT display still costs about $200 to $300 less than an LCD of the same size, prices are coming down. The average price of the 17-inch LCDs we tested last March was nearly $900. This month, the average is down to about $700, and one new model on the chart sells for under $600. Of the seven new monitors we reviewed this month, three--the Planar PL170M, the Envision AOC LM720, and the KDS Radius Rad-7c--did not make the chart.
