Cards featuring the ATI Radeon 9700 chip blast onto the power chart. ATI's own Radeon 9700 Pro board takes fourth place, while a model from graphics newcomer Crucial Technology wins the second spot thanks to a better bundle of extras. Neither board is cheap, however, so the Best Buy goes to the $260 GeForce4 Ti 4600-based Leadtek WinFast A250 Ultra TD-MyVIVO. Falling prices shift items on our value list, which welcomes the Asus AGP-V8170DDR board.
Two other new cards just missed our roster. The AOpen Aoelus Ti4200S 8X, offering faster memory than AOpen's standard Ti4200 card, posted very good scores in our frame rate tests. But with a street price of $249, it yielded the fifth spot on the power chart to the $165 Gainward GeForce4 PowerPack Ultra/650 XP Golden Sample, which performed nearly as well in our tests. Among the value contenders, the $130 Gainward GeForce4 PowerPack Pro/600-8X XP Golden Sample blew past other cards with the same graphics chip. However, the nearly identical Gainward Pro/600 TV Golden Sample is a better buy at just $81.
