The Stylus Photo 925 has an on-board control
panel with flash-memory slots for SmartMedia, CompactFlash, IBM Microdrive, and
Memory Stick media, so you can print from your digital camera without using a
PC. The control-panel menus let you select layouts for multiple images; crop
images; print multiple copies of the same image; apply automatic corrections
for portrait, scenery, nighttime, and other shots; and fine-tune brightness,
ink saturation, image sharpness, and other attributes. Though the control panel
sounds overwhelming, we found it very straightforward. A paper-roll feeder and
built-in automatic paper cutter make it easy to run batches of photos. You can
connect a Zip drive to a serial port on the printer's back, and then offload
images from a media card to a Zip disk or print files stored on a Zip disk.
For an extra $80, you can equip the 925 with a preview monitor (an
LCD screen that displays the photos on your memory card, so you don't have to
remember frame numbers or print a contact sheet). Oh, and the 925's glossy
prints show fabulous detail and lifelike coloring.
