Bottom Line

The LCD 1920NX has impressive graphics and text quality, but it's more expensive than other monitors that offer similar image quality and more features.

NEC MultiSync LCD 1920NX

WHAT'S HOT: The white-bezeled MultiSync LCD 1920NX rendered crisp text that was readable even at small font sizes. Icons on the desktop and on document menus showed immense clarity, while photos contained satisfying hues and natural colors. In addition to a three-year warranty, NEC-Mitsubishi provides generous 24-hour daily telephone tech support.

WHAT'S NOT: NEC-Mitsubishi was the only vendor in our recent roundup that didn't include a DVI cable. If you want to use the DVI connection you will have to buy the cable separately for about $30. Except for the swivel base, the $950 LCD 1920NX doesn't include any extra features of note.

Our test model felt a bit unstable on its base. A nudge to the bezel made the panel rock back and forth slightly, a trait we didn't find on other models we evaluated.

WHAT ELSE: The LCD's horizontal viewing angle, as measured by the PC World Test Center, came to 123 degrees--at the lower end of the range for 19-inch models we've seen. (Please note that PC World uses a different method than monitor vendors do for measuring angle of view. For details on our procedure, see "Lab Notes: The Angle on LCDs.")

UPSHOT: The LCD 1920NX has impressive graphics and text quality, but it's more expensive than other monitors that offer similar image quality and more features.
