Palm Officially Announces Tungsten W Plans
AT&T Wireless will offer voice and data service for Palm's new PDA.
As expected, Palm formally announced Monday that AT&T Wireless Services will offer voice and data services over Palm's Tungsten W, a handheld computer with phone features.
The Tungsten W, designed primarily for enterprises, can be used with AT&T's GSM/GPRS service, which is available in 99 of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S., according to Palm. International roaming services also are available.
The suggested retail price of the Tungsten W is $549.
Minor Delay
The announcement, which had been scheduled for February 18, was held up because of delays in approval of the device by the PCS Type Certification Review Board. Its certification is required by North American GSM carriers.
The Tungsten W can be preordered now at The Palm Store, as well as at Amazon.com, CDW.com, CompUSA.com, FranklinCovey.com, Insight.com, JandR.com, MicroWarehouse.com, OfficeDepot.com, PCConnection.com, and Staples.com.
Starting February 28, it will be available nationally at select CompUSA, Franklin Covey and other retail stores.
