Eizo Nanao FlexScan L367
This good-looking, reasonably priced 15-inch LCD lacks the extensive ergonomic options and advanced software of more-expensive models.

WHAT'S HOT: The Eizo Nanao FlexScan L367 displayed photographs with very realistic colors and showed crisp text on most of our test screens. The angle of view was superb, measuring 180 degrees in our tests. Unlike many 15-inch LCD monitors, which have only an analog input, the FlexScan L367 can also accept a digital signal via its DVI connector.
The monitor's controls are easy to navigate and offer many options for refining images. The FlexScan L367 also provides a Fine Contrast button that toggles through five image modes--settings optimized for different subject matter such as movies, photographs, or text. You can also manually adjust the color temperature, brightness, and color saturation for each mode.
Using Eizo's included ScreenManager Pro software (which runs on Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, or XP), you can assign individual brightness and contrast levels to each application. In movie mode, the software can display a movie window at a brighter setting than other open windows. ScreenManager Pro, which communicates with the monitor via a USB cable from the PC, also lets you assign hot-keys on your keyboard to perform the same functions as the control buttons on the monitor's bezel.
WHAT'S NOT: Support is a little skimpy--Eizo techs answer the phones for only 8 hours per day on weekdays. Many other monitor vendors offer 24-hour, daily coverage.
WHAT ELSE: Printed documentation covers the basics but doesn't provide detailed explanations of the monitor's controls. An HTML manual we downloaded from the company's Web site was much more thorough.
Unlike Eizo's ColorEdge series of LCDs, which are targeted to graphics pros, this monitor doesn't come with the company's ColorNavigator calibration software. However, to help you accurately print the colors you see on screen, the FlexScan L367 supports sRGB color matching and Epson's PRINT Image Matching II technology.
You won't have to fumble with an external power supply; it's built in to the unit, as are a pair of speakers (though their sound was flat and tinny). The monitor comes off its stand for wall mounting, and it is available in black or gray. A headphone jack is conveniently located on the front of the bezel. Though the monitor's height is adjustable, the stand doesn't swivel from side to side, and you can't rotate the screen into portrait mode.
UPSHOT: Advanced users will appreciate the L367's flexible controls, and digital photography buffs will like the rich color photos it displays.
