Banish AOL's In-Your-Face Ads
How to disable pop-up ads and other AOL annoyances.
AOL doesn't exactly promote this fact--wonder why?--but you can disable those galling pop-up ads that pitch you products and services at the beginning of an online session. In fact, you can decline a slew of marketing efforts coming through AOL. From within AOL, press Ctrl-K, enter marketing preferences, and hit Enter or click the Go button. To disable ads, click the Pop-Up button, then Continue and check the "No, I do not want to receive . . ." box. Click OK. You can avoid other marketing maneuvers, from junk mail and telephone calls to AOL-generated spam, by selecting other categories in the Marketing Preferences window.
