News: Air Bags for ThinkPads
IBM's latest ThinkPads, models R50 and T41, feature a new Active Protection System designed to act like an air bag to protect the internal hard drive in case of sudden motion, such as the notebook being dropped. IBM also upgraded other ThinkPad models with faster processors and integrated wireless technology.

News: Secure USB Storage From Sony
A new version of Sony's Micro Vault USB flash memory storage device includes an integrated fingerprint reader that controls access to your notebook. The 128MB device should be available in the United States and Europe in November for about. Prices in Europe are about US $150. No prices had been set for the U.S. and Japanese markets as of this writing.
News: Notebooks, Tablet PC From HP
Hewlett-Packard recently introduced two new notebooks and a revamped Tablet PC.
HP's NC6000 (beginning at $1649) and NC8000 (starting at $2049) notebooks include integrated Bluetooth and support all three 802.11 standards as well as the latest security protocols, such as Wi-Fi Protected Access. Meanwhile, HP's Tablet PC, the TC1100, offers wireless connectivity via Bluetooth and WLAN based on the 802.11 standards and incorporates Intel's low-voltage Pentium M chip. The TC1100 will ship in mid-November beginning at $1849.
