SuperDisk Encrypts for You

New 120MB disks let you prevent data theft with a few clicks.

Like it or not, the data we use in personal life and business is more vulnerable than ever to attack. Whether we deal with a confidential client database, sensitive financial information, or proprietary corporate assets, most of us would sleep better knowing we've taken precautions to protect our valuable data from unauthorized access. This holds especially true for laptop-toting mobile professionals who might transfer data on disks to and from multiple systems and take sensitive information on the road.

If you're concerned about safeguarding your computer data, Imation--the 3M spin-off that has been the main proponent of 120MB LS-120 high-capacity removable media--has a good answer: a new tool that makes it a breeze to encrypt files on the company's SuperDisk media. The new SuperDisk Diskette with Secured Encryption Technology is designed for use with SuperDisk removable-media drives and runs under Windows 95/98 and NT. The encryption software is included on the high-density disk itself and is not sold as a separate software package.

At a typical street price of $14 each, SuperDisks with SET cost only a fraction more than standard SuperDisks, which go for about $13. (These prices are based on the cost of a three-pack--the smallest quantity sold.) For the extra dollar, you get automatic file encryption using one of the industry's toughest algorithms, easy setup, and nearly transparent operation. So even if thieves do swipe your disk, they're unlikely to be able to steal your data with them. The only caveat is that saving files with encryption takes a little longer than without.
