Big-screen TVs are getting even bigger, and the latest model from Panasonic is no exception. The company will offer a 50-inch plasma display in the coming months.

The 50-inch model is the largest of the new Viera line of flat-screen TVs, which was on display at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The series of ten flat-panel digital TVs includes two high-definition-capable LCD TVs, and three HD-capable plasma TVs.

The 50-inch TH-50PX25U/P high-definition plasma model will be on sale in April, priced at $8500. It has a PC Card slot and an SD card slot, for viewing digital photos.

Two of the LCD TVs, the 26-inch-diagonal TC-26LX20 and the 32-inch-diagonal TC-32LX20 each have a 16:9 wide-screen aspect ratio, making them well-suited for displaying movies in their native format. Both are scheduled to ship in April, and their pricing has yet to be determined. The three smaller LCD models, scheduled to ship later in the spring, have 4:3 aspect ratios.

All of the LCD TVs have 1280-by-1024-pixel resolution and horizontal viewing angles of 170 degrees, according to Panasonic.

Put It on DVD

Panasonic also announced at the show four new DVD recorders as part of its DIGA line. The DMR E-75 is Panasonic's first combination DVD-recordable and VHS deck, allowing users to copy VHS videocassettes onto DVD-R or DVD-RAM discs. It will be available in May for $600.

Another new model, the DMR-E85H, includes a 120GB hard drive, allowing the unit to be used as a personal video recorder. It comes with the TV Guide On Screen Electronic Programming Guide. It records on DVD-R or DVD-RAM discs, and will be available in May for $800.
