Your wristwatch can tell time, but soon it may be able to provide you with entertainment. Laks Cartagena Handels, which sells watches under the Laks brand name, has developed a watch that doubles as an MP3 player.
Laks will launch the device at the Cebit trade show, which is scheduled to take place in March in Germany.
The new watch, called Laks Memory Music, will be available with either 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, or 256MB of data storage space and is scheduled to go on sale in March at about the same time as its Cebit launch, the Vienna-based company says in a statement.
Memory and More
Last year, Laks began selling a range of watches called Laks Memory which had built-in flash memory and a retractable USB cord and could be used as portable data storage. The Laks Memory Music adds an MP3 player function to these watches and also has a voice recorder function.
Battery life, when listening to MP3 music, is between four hours and five hours and an internal battery can be charged via USB in about 1.5 hours, according to the company. The 256MB version should be able to store around 60 songs and all models are compatible with computers running Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
Prices for the watches range from $113 for the 32MB model to $251 for the 256MB model.
Cebit 2004 will take place in Hanover, Germany, from March 18 to 24.
