Spymac Rolls Out Free E-Mail

Search giant Google isn't the only company jumping into the free e-mail market. Spymac Network has launched a free online e-mail service that matches the 1GB of e-mail storage that Google is providing in its fledgling GMail service.

Spymac is offering the jumbo e-mail storage as part of a free membership in Spymac.com, its online community site geared toward Apple Computer Macintosh users, according to an item posted by Spymac on its site this week.

Other features include 250MB of storage for pictures, 100MB of space for Web pages, and public and private hosting of the customer's ICal Macintosh calendar.

The e-mail service is offered to customers 13-years-old and older using any operating system, according to the posting.

First to Market

The 1GB of e-mail storage became available on all Spymac accounts as of Monday, according to the posting, which touted the offering as the first free 1GB e-mail launched on the Internet.

Google announced GMail last week and began offering accounts on an invitation-only basis.

Unlike GMail, which will be supported by advertising, Spymac mail has no advertising, the posting says. In addition, Spymac offers customers POP3 access to e-mail accounts so users can get their e-mail through popular e-mail clients such as Microsoft's Outlook.
