Microsoft has released an updated version of an add-on for its Outlook e-mail program that lets users of that e-mail client connect to IBM Lotus Domino servers.

Version 2 of the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for IBM Lotus Domino is an update from version 1, which was released last year. The latest version adds support for Outlook 2003 and Release 6.x of Domino, among other features, a Microsoft spokesperson says.

The Outlook Connector allows Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2002 users to access e-mail, calendar, address book, and task items on an IBM Lotus Domino Release 5.x or Release 6.x server, according to Microsoft.

Coexisting or Moving

Microsoft developed Outlook Connector to let companies give their employees the opportunity to use Outlook instead of the Lotus Notes client. Users may be running the Outlook client in conjunction with Domino, or as part of a move to Microsoft's Exchange messaging platform, the Microsoft spokesperson says.

Microsoft most recently updated Outlook as part of Office 2003 last fall. IBM shipped Domino 6.5 last December.

The Outlook Connector software is available as a free download at Microsoft's Web site.
