The Iiyama ProLite E431S is one of the least expensive 17-inch LCDs we've examined lately--but there's nothing cheap about its text performance. Iiyama's Digital Character Smoothing feature pays off with a Very good score for text. Our jury gave it top honors on our Microsoft Word document test. However, the difficult-to-understand controls make you work too hard--and tech support hours don't include evenings or weekends. The bezel measures just half an inch on the sides and top, and 1.25 inches on the bottom (to allow for the speakers). The model we tested is the E431S-B, with the "B" standing for "black," the cabinet color.
Upshot:
Clean text, no-nonsense design, and a low price make the Iiyama ProLite E431S a good bet for many users.
