Click and Pay, Not Click and Pray (chart)
More people are paying to download music. Here's how the stores stack up.
Sometimes free music isn't worth the cost. Peer-to-peer download services like Kazaa are full of junk: poor-quality tracks and mislabeled files. And then there's the threat of the RIAA dragging you into court. Music download stores offer a legal way for you to get digital-audio tracks. For now, the latest generation of stores shows promise--but there's still room for improvement. We'd like to see higher-quality downloads, fewer restrictions, better compatibility between stores, and larger selections.
