Gadget Freak: When Wi-Fi Won't Fly

Next Up: Music Everywhere

Sonos's Digital Music System can't guarantee you'll feel like dancing, but it will spread digital music throughout your home. The $499 networked ZonePlayer distributes, plays, and amplifies music in a room or "zone" of the house, using your speakers and its own 50-watts-per-channel amp. It plays file formats like MP3 and WMA from your PC, Mac, or Network Attached Storage device, as well as music from Internet radio stations. Its companion, a sophisticated $399 wireless controller, lets you play music in any zone as you roam.
