Among laptops priced around $1500, the Micro Express NP2320A defines average. For instance, the memory card slot reads only three formats, which is average among card readers. You get an average number of USB ports (two), a 14-inch screen, and a fixed combination drive. Battery life in our tests was 2.5 hours, which is unimpressive compared with the three or four hours most laptops last. Nor is audio the NP2320A's forte: The speakers, which are located on the side of the laptop, emit fair-quality sound, but their volume peaks quickly.

The NP2320A blazed ahead of other lightweight laptops in our speed tests, though, scoring a 92 on our WorldBench 5 tests with the help of its 1GB of RAM--twice the standard 512MB. Its 60GB hard drive, a fast 7200-rpm model, helped here, too.

Otherwise, the best things about this black-and-silver unit with baby blue trim are its 6.3-pound weight and firm, touchpad-equipped keyboard. All the rest is, well, underwhelming for the price.

Speed is the most impressive thing about the RAM-laden Micro Express NP2320A, which is otherwise a decidedly average laptop for the money.
