The dark side on instant messaging gets a second close look as Steve and Angela take on another form of IM evil--the phisher. Phishers, also active (alas) in e-mail, attempt to separate unwary folk from their credit card info, passwords, or other sensitive personal data.
Angela explains that phishers use spim to make contact with potential victims, and Steve warns that even clicking a link sent by one of these jerks may take you to a Web site that drops a sneaky little program onto your hard drive. It might rummage through your data or open up a security hole for other dirty tricks.
Disgusted by the wicked ways of the phishers, the Duo suggest a simple rule: If anyone you don't know sends you a link in IM, don't click. Don't even answer.
