Wireless E-Mail News: RIM Wins Europe Patent Cases

BlackBerry maker RIM recently won two patent-infringement lawsuits in Europe. In one case, the English High Court ruled that the United Kingdom patent held by InPro Licensing SARL, a Luxembourg patent holding company, is invalid. InPro had alleged that some BlackBerry products infringed on its patent. In addition, RIM won a similar lawsuit against InPro in Germany.

Wireless E-Mail News: BlackBerry Workaround Revealed

RIM has developed and tested software that will enable BlackBerry users to continue receiving wireless e-mail service even if the company is ordered to shut down the current form of its U.S. push e-mail service. Users will be able to download the software workaround, and it will be installed on future BlackBerry devices. The software does not rely on technologies based on patents held by NTP, which has sued RIM for patent infringement.

Mobile Phone News: New Phone Uses Memory Stick Micro

Sony Ericsson has introduced the first cell phone, the M600, to use the new Sony Memory Stick Micro. The ultra-small memory card, measuring 0.6 inches by 0.5 inches by 0.05 inches, should help shrink the size of phones while offering removable storage for music files and other content. Memory Stick Micro cards will initially be available in 256MB and 512MB capacities.
