Speaking of Ultra Mobile PCs, Sony recently announced the Vaio UX50, a Windows XP computer roughly the size of a paperback book. Expected to be available in the U.S. in July, the portable has a 4.5-inch wide-screen display and costs about $1800.

Feedback from those who bought Samsung's Q1, an Ultra Mobile PC based on Microsoft's Origami platform, has been decidedly mixed, a Samsung executive admits. Consumers exposed to Microsoft's prelaunch teaser campaign have had a more negative reaction to the device, while those who weren't aware of the Origami platform in advance of the Q1's release were generally more positive about their experiences.

VoIP service provider Vonage's legal troubles continue to grow. A recent lawsuit alleges that the company, in advance of initial public offering, didn't provide full disclosure of information regarding known problems with call and fax quality.
