Notebook News: Sony's Ultra-Compact Vaio
Speaking of Ultra Mobile PCs, Sony recently announced the Vaio UX50, a Windows XP computer roughly the size of a paperback book. Expected to be available in the U.S. in July, the portable has a 4.5-inch wide-screen display and costs about $1800.

Feedback from those who bought Samsung's Q1, an Ultra Mobile PC based on Microsoft's Origami platform, has been decidedly mixed, a Samsung executive admits. Consumers exposed to Microsoft's prelaunch teaser campaign have had a more negative reaction to the device, while those who weren't aware of the Origami platform in advance of the Q1's release were generally more positive about their experiences.
