Test Report: Are Core 2 Duo Notebooks a Big Improvement?
Earlier this year, Intel introduced its first dual-core CPUs, which boosted by 30 percent the speed of a notebook simultaneously performing two tasks. So should you regret buying one of those notebooks, now that the Core Duo's successor, the Mobile Core 2 Duo, is available? Not necessarily, according to our test results of the new processors.
PC World tested three shipping notebooks with different Core 2 Duo processors and 1GB of memory and compared performance to same-speed Core Duo-based notebooks. The biggest performance jump was just 7 percent. That's only enough to cut a few seconds off of routine computing tasks, such as handling spreadsheets. In addition, Core 2 Duo doesn't seem to significantly boost battery life.

The most common complaints were inaccurate bills, inadequate customer service, and deceptive contract terms.

Texas Instruments recently demonstrated personal video recording technology that allows you to record a TV program on your mobile phone and watch it later on the go. The technology should be available in 2007, the company says.
