GPS Review: HP's Travel Companion
At $600, the new HP iPaq rx5000 series Travel Companion devices are a bit pricey. But the PDAs offer lots of functionality that many other handheld GPS devices don't, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networking. The $600 Windows Mobile 5.0 device has a 3.5-inch color screen and features world clocks, currency converters, a global dialing code guide, and global weather forecasts. You can also listen to MP3 files, watch videos, and play games.
Notebook News: Ultra Mobile PCs Get 3G Wireless
Sierra Wireless has announced plans to provide embedded cellular wireless networking chips for a new Intel Ultra Mobile PC platform. The chips will enable UMPC devices to connect to fast 3G wireless networks. Previously, most UMPCs have come only with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless networking (except for Sony's Vaio VGN-UX50, which provides connectivity to the Cingular EDGE network).
Gadget News: Zune Pricing and Ship Date Announced
Microsoft's Zune digital media player will ship in the U.S. on November 14 and cost $250, Microsoft has announced. This puts the Zune's price in line with Apple's video iPods.
