Portable Browser News: Opera Adds Social Networking
The third version of the free Opera Mini mobile phone Web browser integrates with the camera in many cell phones. With Opera Mini 3.0, you can easily upload photos to social networking sites such as Flickr and MySpace, according to Opera Software. You can also subscribe to and receive RSS feeds, among other enhancements.
Notebook News: NEC's Extreme Laptop
NEC executives recently showed off the company's new notebook by pouring a bottle of water over it while it was operating. No, the laptop's battery was not in flames. Rather, the executives were demonstrating the new Shield Pro FC-N21S's rugged constitution. The laptop is designed to be splash-proof and can be dropped from as much as 3 feet onto a hard surface and still survive.
The Shield Pro FC-N21S will go on sale in Japan in January for $2165 to $2600. NEC was considering its international sales plans as of this writing.
Wireless Security News: Apple Patches AirPort Hole
Apple Computer recently released software patches designed to fix potential security vulnerabilities in its AirPort wireless drivers. The flaw affects the Proxim Orinoco wireless cards (branded by Apple as AirPort) used by PowerBook laptops (and other Mac computers) built between 1999 and 2003.
