Notebook News: HP's Touch-Screen Vista Notebook
Hewlett-Packard has introduced a touch-screen notebook that ships with Windows Vista. HP will begin selling the notebook online on February 28 for $1299.
Notebook Accessory News: A Sexy Portable Hard Drive?
With its new FreeAgent line, Seagate is banking that storage can be sexy. The line of external "data movers" (Seagate's term) has a sleek, stylish look, like something you'd see from Sony or Apple.
Of particular interest to mobile users is FreeAgent Go. To be available in 80GB, 120GB, and 160GB versions, FreeAgent Go drives let you store your Web favorites, passwords, settings, e-mail, contacts, and files. You can plug a FreeAgent Go drive into a borrowed PC, easily gain access to your data, then disconnect the drive without leaving a trace, according to Seagate. (Small USB thumb drives from the likes of U3 and Migo do this as well, but are mostly limited to 4GB or so). Prices range from $130 for 80GB to $190 for the 160GB model.
Notebook Accessory News: Easy File Transfer Between PCs
There are plenty of ways to transfer files from your desktop to your notebook, and vice versa. But here's one that our columnist Steve Bass says is super easy: The Tornado, a $60 CD-shaped gadget with a retractable USB cable. The Tornado connects two computers via USB port and transfers files without software, device drivers, or other hassles. The Tornado was introduced at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Read "CES 2007 Picks and Pans" for more about the Tornado and our editors' other CES favorites.
