Mobile Computing News, Reviews, & Tips

News: Costco Tightens Liberal Return Policy

Discount retailer Costco once offered what was probably the industry's most generous return policy for computers and electronics: six months for desktop PCs and an unlimited return period for other electronics, with no restocking fee. But for financial reasons, the company has announced a stricter, though still generous, policy. Customers now have 90 days in which to return computers, cell phones, cameras, and other electronics, for a full refund and no restocking fee.

Costco competitor Sam's Club lets consumers return computers, except for Dell PCs, for a full refund within six months. Dell PCs must be returned within 30 days.

News: A Haven for CrackBerry Addicts

I suppose it was inevitable: CrackBerry.com. The new site is geared toward RIM BlackBerry "users and abusers" and includes BlackBerry news, rumors, tips, and reviews. And, oh yes--there's a rehab section.

News: Portable Media Player/Camcorder

The new Archos 404 Camcorder combines a 30GB hard drive portable media player with a video camcorder. The device ($299) records video in the MPEG-4 format and can display MPEG-4, Windows Media Video, and other video formats on its 3.5-inch 320-by-240-pixel display.

Suggestion Box

Is there a particularly cool mobile computing product or service I've missed? Got a spare story idea in your back pocket? Tell me about it. However, I regret that I'm unable to respond to tech-support questions, due to the volume of e-mail I receive.
