Last week, Sony Computer Entertainment America managed to squirm out of the woodwork and release two new downloadable games for the PS3's PlayStation Store online service. This week, the company followed up with a similar performance of two more games, and yes, you read right -- Calling All Cars will finally be available on the PlayStation 3 starting Thursday, and accompanying it will be a port of the arcade title Rampart.
As we've probably mentioned before, David Jaffe's Calling All Cars is, at its core, a high-paced cops 'n' robbers take on automobile action with a zany twist. Think of it as a wacky amalgamation of the Keystone Cops and Twisted Metal. Initial reviews of the game have been mixed, to say the least, but Sony has put in some overtime in recent weeks, making sure that it's is as polished and ready for consumption as it can possibly be.The game can be purchased for the price of US$9.99 as soon as Sony's Thursday update kicks in.
As a supplemental release, Sony will also offer Atari's Rampart for $4.99. For those who didn't grow up playing this game in arcades, players are required to build a fortress with randomly-generated pieces of castle wall. Once the fortress establishes an enclosed space, players must then place as many cannons as possible inside their castle walls, which are subsequently used to attack enemies. In essence, the game combines strategy, action, and Tetris-like puzzle mechanics, and should not be ignored by gamers searching for an old school arcade feel.
Elsewhere in the PlayStation Store, SCEA will also offer three free trailers for more upcoming PS3 games. The first will be a video for the anticipated multiplayer title Warhawk, while the second is a trailer for Burnout Paradise, the first next-gen installment of the Burnout series, The last video will feature gameplay footage from Rampage World Tour, which could possibly be next week's downloadable release for the PlayStation Store. In any case, we're hoping that this two-game-a-week thing Sony currently has going for it becomes something of a regular trend.
