MCE Technologies is now shipping its MobileStor Performance 250GB hard disk drive upgrade for the MacBook and MacBook Pro. It costs $279.

The drive spins at 5400RPM and has an 8MB data buffer. The kit includes all tools necessary not only to install the drive inside a MacBook or MacBook Pro, but to transfer the contents of the original factory-installed drive onto the new mechanism as well. It comes with SuperDuper, the Mac OS X cloning/backup software, along with tools to open your MacBook or MacBook Pro.

It also includes an external portable 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive enclosure with both external Serial ATA (eSATA) and USB 2.0 interfaces. The drive enclosure is “screwless” for easy installation of the original drive, and is bootable on all Intel Macs. So you can continue to use your original internal hard drive as an external backup system or additional storage once you're done.
