JVC Offers High-Def Camcorder

JVC's Everio GZ-HD3 hard-disk-based HD camcorder works with both Macs and PCs.

JVC on Thursday announced the launch of their HD Everio GZ-HD3, a hard disk-based high definition camcorder that works with both Macs and PCs. It's coming in September and will cost about $1,300.

The Everio GZ-HD3 has three CCDs and records video at 1440x1080 directly to a built-in 60GB hard disk drive. Depending on what recording mode the user chooses, the device can store from 5 to 7 hours of video.

It features HDMI and component video output, and can be downconverted to a standard definition (SD) television as well, The camcorder sports USB 2.0 and FireWire connections, and includes plug-in software to enable the video to be imported to a Mac and edited using iMovie HD or Final Cut Pro.

The GZ-HD3 also has an SD card slot for storing stills and video, a 2.8-inch LCD display, mic input and accessory shoe.
