Symantec says a recently identified Adobe Flash vulnerability could affect the Nintendo Wii through the console's Opera internet browser.

Researchers at the security firm said the vulnerability has already been tested on Windows, Mac and some Linux apps, saying it reflects the increasing use of cross-platform hacks. As well as the Nintendo Wii, the security threat could also affect devices such as advanced smartphones, according to Symantec.

Nintendo Wii consoles that run the exploit completely freeze up while browsing a specially crafted video, said Symantec. Videos of the different effects of the bug on different platforms can be found on YouTube.

Symantec recommends users to update Flash Player with the latest patches from Adobe.
