Apple announced Tuesday that more than three billion songs have been purchased and downloaded from the iTunes Store. The store has a catalog of over 5 million songs, 550 television shows and 550 movies.

The iTunes Store offers users in the United States and other countries the ability to purchase and download music through iTunes, Apple's popular (and free) music jukebox software. It also offers games for fifth generation iPods and other entertainment - though users in countries outside the United States are still waiting for video entertainment to wing their way.

Apple also leverages the iTunes Store as a way of offering video content for users of Apple TV, a device that enables users to connect their Macs or PCs to a home entertainment system and High Definition (HD) television.
