Sex Offenders on MySpace, Windows Vista News

A proposed North Carolina law would ban registered sex offenders from using social networking sites like MySpace. Some readers blame parents for not monitoring their children, while parents say that they are trying their best. Some readers say that the proposed legislation could be unconstitutional, while others say it doesn't address the real problem. Read "MySpace Hosting 29,000 Sex Offenders," then let us know what you think.

Acer says that the PC industry is disappointed with Windows Vista. Some readers trashed Vista; others defended it; and many questioned why Vista has sold so many copies in the first place. What do you think of Vista? See what Acer has to say, then leave your own comments.

MySpace Hosting 29,000 Sex Offenders

ladybugez says: Great story. I find however, being the mother of an 18-year-old girl, that it doesn't seem to make a difference to these kids what their parents say or advise. When something happens to a kid, even 18-to-21-year-olds (i.e. Lindsey Lohan), it seems so unfair to ask, "Where were the parents?" In most cases, as in mine, the parents are trying very, very hard to advise/protect their children. They just are not taking heed and are doing whatever they want.

DannyZ says: If these "predators" are truly dangers to society, why aren't they in prison? What's next? MySpace will need to provide a list of traffic offenders, smokers and those behind on there taxes? As long as the person or persons identified are not utilizing the service to conduct illegal activities is it not unconstitutional to prohibit them from utilizing these types of services?

GADGETGUY says: The problem is not the registered sex offenders. The problem is the sex offenders who are not known. The real story here is the state attorneys who are looking to keep their names in the news by playing the easy trump card of "protecting our children" against sex offenders who already are under more scrutiny than perhaps they deserve. Yet these same state attorneys refuse to use the same techniques to protect the children from convicted drunk drivers, gangbangers, and murderers.

ImaPhake says: The Internet as a whole is made up of...well...you know... people--just like the real world! And just like the real world, we don't know anything about the strangers we casually converse with on a daily basis. There are countless sex offenders on the Internet who have yet to be exposed--just as in the Real World.

Acer: PC Industry 'Disappointed' With Vista

markg says: I just bought a new PC. I like Windows Vista. I have two computers, a laptop and a desktop. The desktop runs Vista and the laptop runs XP. Shame on Acer for pointing fingers at Microsoft.

bsuds01 says: I purchased a new HP desktop in November 2006 with a free Vista upgrade. When I finally got Vista and installed it I was a little disappointed. It definitely runs slower than XP and there are lots of programs that will just not work with it.

JBENZ says: What do you bet that those "booming" Vista sales are mostly the result of people buying it because they didn't have a choice. If the manufacturers and dealers gave buyers a same-price choice you'd see Vista sales tank overnight. Let's see: Vista vs. XP/less hardware/less aggravation/more beer. Duh.

windowcrank says: Doesn't anybody have any memory at all? We went through all this before when XP first came out; we went through it before that when Win 2000 came. Too much memory required, too sluggish, service packs needed, moaning and complaining. Get a grip folks--in a year everyone will be running Vista and getting ready to bash the next release of something from Microsoft. It's a never-ending cycle brought about by progress.

What Will Windows 7 Look Like?

MartyBacon says: Do you suppose they will have Vista working by 2010? Contemplating the "next OS version" seems premature when Vista is currently a work in progress.

BILLD says: Do they think that we will fall for another piece of crap? Vista wised me up. Instead of fixing it, they just throw more junk at us.

zman00 says: Oh come on! You know why they're waiting till 2010: They need Apple to come out with a new look to steal.

LATRIPP says: Okay, so if I understand the hypervisor right, it would allow Microsoft even more control over our PCs. Is anyone not disturbed by this? Does Microsoft have to own everything? My God, I want something with more user control. I have a tower with XP and Ubuntu dual booting. I like that kind of control. Users need to be able to control their own computer, not have Microsoft control it for them.
