Following the huge success of the Nike+ Apple iPod products, Timex has announced a wireless iPod-controlling watch for sporty types, the iControl.

The watch is an advanced sports timepiece that also works as a wireless operating device for the iPod - and is compatible with the iPhone when that device is set to airplane mode.

Using iControl, wearers can control their iPod using the following functions: Play/Pause, Volume Up/Down, Track Forward/Back.

The device also includes features for sportsmen and women, including a 50-lap memory recall chronograph, a multi-mode countdown timer, two interval timers for speed and endurance training and three alarms.

The lightweight iControl is a new member of the company's Ironman collection of rugged, hard-wearing sports watches. The watch has a night light for use in the dark and its battery life is three years. It is also water-resistant to up to 100 metres.

"The days of fumbling for your iPod in mid-stride are over," said Heberto Calves, vice president of sports marketing. "iControl offers cutting edge technology and contemporary design, in addition to the functional quality and durability people have come to expect from Timex."

The device is available now in the US from Timex and Apple. It costs US$125 and is available in combinations of grey and black, as well as pink, blue, orange and green.
