EMC has launched software to allow companies to better control their IP telephony.

The company said that Smarts VOIP Performance Manager and Smarts VOIP Performance Reporter would allow companies to monitor, diagnose, and report, as well as provide alerts on all aspects of a system that may affect IP telephony services. This includes information about phone calls, telephone extensions, voice quality, availability of phone service and interconnections to telecoms providers.

EMC said that the software would also monitor call volumes, call quality and route patterns to help ensure service levels. Trend reporting and historical performance data is also provided.

EMC says that its software analyses data from multiple sources in order to pinpoint the cause of IP telephony and IT infrastructure problems.

According to Chris Gahagan, EMC's senior vice president of resource management software, the software simplifies the management of geographically dispersed and hybrid installations.

While pricing was not mentioned, the Smarts software is mostly targeted at global enterprises and managed service providers, as it is able to manage hundreds of IP PBXs and hundreds of thousands of phones.

The platform currently supports Avaya Communications Manager, Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unified CallManager and Cisco CallManager. It also can be integrated with other third-party management systems.
