Since the U.S. Postal Service announced its format for electronically delivered postage last spring, several vendors have been developing PC-based equivalents to "personal postage meters," promising the end of waiting in post-office lines. During this time, PC World has been monitoring and reporting on their progress and anticipating the time when we could tell you which e-postage solution works best.

It turns out that the field is still too new for a definitive answer. At the time our December 1999 print issue went to press, there were only two e-postage vendors with shipping products we could review.
