LaCie Unveils Designer Hard Drive

LaCie has introduced a new external hard drive designed by industrial designer Neil Poulton.

LaCie on Wednesday introduced the Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton. It's an external hard disk with USB 2.0 connectivity that will be available this January in capacities from 320GB to 1 terabyte (TB), starting at $119.99.

Neil Poulton's design is a simple, monolithic rectangular enclosure, designed with a blue ambient LED glow on its underside. The enclosure is black, mirrored and polished. The case uses bottom plate holes for natural airflow, so it operates without any fan noise.

Also included on the drive is LaCie's "1-Click" Backup Software for Mac and PC - software that enables you to back up your entire system. The LaCie Setup Assistant helps users get the drive set up the first time, as well. And, of course, it's compatible with Time Machine, Apple's new feature in Leopard that lets users keep a persistent backup of their Mac, enabling them to restore files that have changed over time or recover files and folders that have been deleted.

LaCie has previous collaborated with Poulton, a decorated industrial and product designer, on its FireWire-based speakers.
