PSP Flexes Non-Gaming Muscle at CES

Sony extended the functionality of the PSP at CES, including Blu-ray to PSP movie transfers, GPS tracking, Skype support, and a 16GB memory stick.

Sony yesterday demonstrated how you could put a Blu-ray Disc movie into a Playstation 3 and copy the film to a Playstation Portable or a Memory Stick. "This way, you can have a portable copy you can take with you," said David Bishop, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

No word yet on pricing (if any) or when the feature will be made available to PS3/PSP owners.

In addition to the already confirmed Skype on PSP support, Sony has listed GPS tracking on PSP to be announced for the U.S. later this week (GPS on PSP is already available in Japan). Features include a visual locater, driving directions, and downloadable city guides to name a few.

Sony also announced a 16GB Memory Stick Duo card yesterday, which retails for $300 and will be available in March.

Information from PC World was used in this report.
