Multiple news outlets (read: not a prank) have reported today that drive manufacturer Lite-On will begin shipping Xbox 360 Blu-Ray BD-ROM drives for Xbox 360 consoles in the second half of 2008.
Lite-On declined to comment, but nevertheless "unnamed industry sources" told Digitimes that shipments of the BD ROMs to Microsoft will start in the second half of 2008. For the record, Lite-On is currently a supplier of Xbox 360 internal DVD-ROM drives.
In the end, though, does any of this really matter? By the time an Xbox 360 BD-ROM drive finally arrives at retail, we'll be using non-physical media for all our gaming needs while we zip around in flying cars.
