Adobe Adds Support for Sony XDCAM EX in Premiere

In addition to leading the way in proposing a new open standard video format, Adobe also announced native support for the Sony XDCAM EX camera format in its Premiere Pro CS3 video editing and production software.

Like the Panasonic P2 format, the Sony XDCAM EX is solid-state recording format for video production that eliminate tape from the workflow. Adobe has been supporting P2 since September 2007.

Adobe says Premiere has advantages when working with these types of formats. For instance, because Premiere doesn't transcode P2 or XDCAM into another file format, editors can edit the camera source files directly. File formats can also be mixed and matched in the software's timeline, making the editing process much faster.

Adobe says the compatibility update for Sony XDCAM EX is available immediately and will be delivered free to all Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 customers. It's unclear whether the update will be available for download from Adobe's Web site.
