KPT 6 Powers Up Tired Graphics Apps
MetaCreations' Kai's Power Tools 6 refreshes graphics programs with creative plug-in filters.
If you've taken your graphics software to the limit, try infusing it with some new special effects. The ten plug-in filters that make up MetaCreations' Kai's Power Tools 6 may provide the jolt of artistic adrenaline you need.
Since 1992 KPT's playful interfaces and fantastic visual effects have made it a favorite with many graphics enthusiasts. Over the years, the plug-ins have become more intuitive and their wild interfaces have been toned down to appeal to mainstream users. Recent offerings feature a more functional, full-screen interface with uncomplicated control panels, large preview windows, and oodles of library presets. Plug-ins from KPT 3 and 5 are not included, though those packages are still available.
Kai's Power Tools 6 costs $149 ($99 as an upgrade from KPT 3 or 5), is available for PCs and the Macintosh, and works with any graphics program that is compatible with Adobe Photoshop plug-ins. I installed KPT 6 on a Pentium-166 test system and used it with several compatible 2D and 3D graphics programs. After a week of use, I favored some of the plug-ins over others, but never found any of them to be unwieldy or imprecise.
