¡Bueno! Looks like the whole Spain situation has been cleared up. Telefónica, the parent company of Spanish provider Movistar as well as British iPhone carrier O2, has announced (PDF link) that they will be carrying the iPhone in Spain for sure. This, after Movistar's Web site flip-flopped on the issue earlier in the week.

According to Reuters, Telefónica claims it will be the sole carrier in España, with rivals Vodafone and Orange reputedly out of the running. Movistar is the largest mobile phone provider in Spain, with around 23 million subscribers. Reuters also quotes sources as saying that phone will go on sale "before the summer." Technically, summer begins on June 20th this year, which means that the launch could be just around the corner.

That's one more country checked off the map, but don't worry: there are plenty left to go. If you've got any more carrier bets, make 'em now.
