Infinity Ward on Tuesday confirmed to CNET that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. Though studio head Vince Zampella wouldn't break down those figures by console, he did say the game had been "most successful" on Xbox 360.

When asked why Infinity Ward didn't develop a Wii version of the game, hindsight that could have boosted sales even higher, Zampella said Call of Duty 4 "just doesn't fit on the Wii. We thought it would be compromised to be on (that) platform."

Call of Duty 5, being developed by Treyarch (who developed the third game), is scheduled for release later this year on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, and PC.
