How to Update ITunes Podcasts

Recently, an associate contacted me about the podcast of his radio show. This show is available from iTunes and he'd subscribed to it. Yet when he looked at his show within his copy of iTunes, an entire week of programs was missing.

In an attempt to rectify the situation he selected his podcast and clicked the Refresh button in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window. Predictably, this didn't solve the problem. ("Predictably" because the Refresh button is there so that you can ask iTunes to search for new episodes that may have appeared since the last time iTunes checked.)

There are a couple of paths to pursue when you face such a situation. The first is to select the podcast, Control-click (right-click) on it, and choose Update Podcast from the contextual menu. This should cause all available episodes for that podcast to appear.

If that doesn't work, select the podcast in question and click the Unsubscribe button in the lower-left corner. Then click that same button again, which now reads Subscribe. Then try the Update Podcast command.
