Kerio Technologies has announced that Kerio MailServer, its e-mail groupware software, natively supports iPhone "push" capabilities for e-mail, calendars and contacts support using Microsoft's ActiveSync technology.

Priced starting at US$499, Kerio MailServer provides unified access to e-mail, calendar and contact information, and also features anti-spam and anti-malware protection. Kerio bills MailServer as an alternative to Microsoft Exchange that can also work with Microsoft products such as Outlook and Entourage. But unlike Exchange, MailServer can run on a Mac equipped with a G4 or better (including Intel).

"Push" capability is new to the iPhone 2.0 software release. The new feature helps iPhones integrate into business environments that use Microsoft Exchange or other software that licenses Microsoft's ActiveSync technology to help keep remote devices up-to-date with contact, calendar and e-mail information.

Users can continue to use client software like iCal and Address book, if they prefer. And in addition to the iPhone, MailServer supports other smartphones like those running Windows Mobile, Palm and Symbian operating systems, and BlackBerrys.
