Blizzard Entertainment notes that its recently-released World of Warcraft expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King, sold 2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours. Wrath of the Lich King is available for both Mac and Windows users. Wrath of the Lich King costs US$39.99.

That number makes Wrath of the Lich King the fastest-selling PC game of all time, according to the company. Perhaps not surprisingly, the previous record was held by Wrath of the Lich King's predecessor, the Burning Crusade, which sold almost 2.4 million copies during its first 24 hours of availability.

Wrath of the Lich King extends the popular Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) in a new direction, opening up a new continent called Northrend for high-level players to explore; introduces a new character class, the Death Knight; adds a new profession, Inscription; and adds new dungeons and monsters and other enhancements to the game.
