Nintendo Wii: Not So Green After All

Recent research from the US Natural Resources Defense Council proclaimed the Nintendo Wii is the greenest games console as it uses the least amount of energy when playing and on standby, offering substansial savings for the environment and your electricity bill.

If you're wedged into your arm chair furiously waving your Wii-mote around, you won't run the risk of bumping into a Greenpeace activist who's likely to tell you that in fact your gaming obsession is actually helping to kill the planet.

The Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics, which ranks tech companies according to their policies on toxic chemicals, recycling and climate change, has rated Nintendo as the least environmentally friendly company. The gaming giant scored just 0.8, compared to Nokia which topped the poll with 6.9 and was named greenest company.

Greenpeace said Nintendo scored "zero on most criteria except chemicals management and energy".

So while the Wii may be kind to your pocket, its manufacturer isn't as kind to the environment as it could be.
