Intego has announced the release of VirusBarrier X5 10.5.5, an update to its anti-virus software for Mac OS X. It's a free update for X5 users. VirusBarrier X5 costs US$69.95.

VirusBarrier protects Macs against viruses and malware by examining all the files your computer reads and writes. It works in the background to stay as non-intrusive as possible.

The update improves performance during manual and real-time scans, and also improves performance of real-time scans of SMB volumes. It can repair files that are not accessible to the current user (following authentication), improves handling of FileVault-encrypted volumes, enhances management of the "Quarantine Zone," and fixes bugs.

System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
